SOME INFORMATION ABOUT UNDISCOVERED TUSCANY
Our Houses and Cottages in Lunigiana
Our properties
Perhaps an old mill beside the crystal clear river flowing down from the mountains, with bathing pools just upstream.
Or a rambling old family house with its own pool with views across to the marble mountains of Carrara.
Wandering out from your cottage in an ancient village to buy your freshly baked bread each morning.
A bijou garden apartment with a pool and stupendous views, yet only a few steps away from the village bar and trattoria.
All at a bargain price.
The area
Lunigiana has been virtually unchanged for centuries and unspoiled by tourism.
It is self-sufficient, and the excellent food in the restaurants reflects this, being made from local, seasonal produce.
Menus are rare - they tell you what they are cooking that day - and at prices much lower than the better known parts of Tuscany.

Yet it is only a quick trip down the autostrada, or a comfortable and affordable train ride, to Florence, Pisa, Lucca and the major art cities of Tuscany.

The location
The coast is only a short distance away. You can visit the old port of Lerici, with its narrow streets and castle on the promontory.
From there you can take the boat out to the Cinque Terre, five old cliff top villages only accessible by sea for centuries. Have a lunch of freshly caught fish on he quay before catching the steaming back.
Portofino is only up the coast - an enclave of wealth and luxury.
Step back in time and enjoy a slower pace of life amongst the hills and mountains of Lunigiana.
Truly Undiscovered Tuscany.

Walking in Lunigiana and Liguria

Coastal footpaths with views across the Bay of the Poets - Walking in the 'Land of 100 Lakes' in the Apennines
Strolling in the chestnut forests of Lunigiana between the mountains and the coast.
There is an experience for all walkers in northern Tuscany and Liguria.
The Tuscany/Umbrian border is an area worth exploring. You can wander over the gentle hills down to Lake Trasimeno, passing through where Hannibal hid his army to ambush the Romans.

City-Centre Apartments in Siena

These are all properties which you can easily go to without having to hire a car, ideal for a short break taking advantage of cheap flights now available off-peak.
Train travel is cheap and efficient in Italy. Local bus services are available from the main centres out to smaller towns such as San Gimignano or Montalcino for those who wish to explore further afield.
We can thoroughly recommend Siena as the ideal city for a short break - traffic-free, lots to see and easy to walk around.

Cottages in the Siena hills

We also have several cottages and village houses in the hills around Siena.
Nestling amongst the vineyards of the famous Chianti wine producers, these houses and cottages offer the opportunity to explore the famous art cities and hill towns of central Tuscany at a fraction of the cost of renting a villa.
San Gimignano, Volterra, Pienza, Castellina in Chianti and many others are within easy reach, as are Florence and Siena.
